A 28-year-old female believes she has a UTI. She complains of frequent, painful, scanty urination. The tongue has a thick, yellow, greasy coat; the pulse is rapid and slippery. You diagnose her with damp-heat in the lower-jiao. What herbs could you give her to disinhibit urination and drain damp-heat?
These are the main ingredients in Ba Zheng San (Eight-Herb Powder for Rectification), which treats Lin syndrome due to damp-heat in the lower-jiao. This formula contains many ingredients from the Drain Damp category: Qu Mai, Bian Xu, Hua Shi, Mu Tong, Che Qian Zi. It also has Zhi Zi, which guides heat out through the urine, and Da Huang, which clears damp-heat.
